Surveillance Video Shows What Happens After Naked Murder Suspect Assaults Officer

Surveillance video just released by Ohio authorities shows an inmate inciting a jailhouse brawl with officers after he socked one of them in the face.

Footage from the Feb. 22 incident shows Ryan Mitchell, who had been naked in a restraint chair, erupt on an officer after being moved at the Montgomery County Jail in Dayton, Ohio.

“He sucker-punched one of our officers,” Montgomery County Sheriff Phil Plummer told WDTN-TV.

In the footage, the officer responded by striking back at Mitchell as five other officers piled atop the murder suspect to get the situation under control. According to the station, Mitchell was naked because of jailhouse protocol that requires an inmate who makes a threat against officers to be undressed before being placed in the restraint chair.

"It may not look good, but our guys are taught to protect themselves," Plummer said.

Mitchell, charged with murder and grand theft auto, among other charges, suffered two black eyes.

”We had proper staffing, medics, and show of force as the six guys [deputies] are in charge. Do what you are told," Plummer added to WDTN-TV.

Mitchell had been arrested in connection to the Feb. 21 death of 26-year-old Melissa Nilson.
