Immigration Officer Indicted for Accepting Cash and Other Unconventional Bribes

Weird.

An immigration officer in California was indicted this week on charges she took cash and food bribes from immigrants looking to become legal citizens.

Mai Nhu Nguyen, 47, reportedly took bribes of approximately $1,000 and $2,200 from at least two immigrants since 2011.

But that's not even the weird part. The weird part is where she's accused of accepting 200 egg rolls from another applicant.

She was indicted Wednesday on three counts of “solicitation of a bribe by a public official,” the New York Post reported.

Each count is punishable by up to 15 years in federal prison.

“Nguyen worked as an officer for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services in Santa Ana where she reviewed immigrants’ applications for benefits,” the Post adds. “Nguyen was arrested June 6 and released on a $20,000 bond.”

She worked at that office for eight years.

The disgraced former immigration officer is scheduled to be arraigned July 1.
