This Could Be the Ultimate Example of 'Right Place, Right Time' Involving a Box Spring and a Falling Toddler

"It was very surreal ..."

A California couple was moving out of their apartment this past the weekend when they saw children throwing their toys out a window a couple of stories up. The situation quickly became serious when one of the children climbed out the window after his toys, but thankfully, these neighbors were carrying something of use at the time: a mattress box spring.

According to KABC-TV, Konrad and Jennifer Lightner threw the box spring underneath the dangling 3-year-old and called 911. MyBurbank.com reported that the toddler got caught on a cable cord before he fell.

Konrad Lightner himself was able to break the child's fall and put him safely on the box spring.

"It feels like I watched a TV show, like it didn't happen to me," he told the news station.

"It was very surreal afterwards. We were just moving the rest of day and every once in a while we'd look at each other and just be like, 'That happened. That was real,'"  Jennifer Lightner added.

Watch KABC's report:

KABC noted that earlier in the day the couple had gotten stuck in the elevator, an incident which they believe put them in the right place at the right time to save the toddler.
