'It Went Kaboom!': Semitruck Crashes Over Bridge Wall…but Now for the Good News
April 04, 2014
Rescuers were concerned the semi, only feet from power lines, could fall to the ground.
“It went kaboom!" eyewitness Dan Wagner recounted, with more than a hint of wonder.
He said he then looked toward the origin of the exploding sound and saw "the truck go over," Wagner told WBNS-TV in Columbus, Ohio.
The resulting scene near downtown Columbus Thursday revealed a semitruck hanging over the edge of a bridge after it crashed over its protective wall. The driver in the dangling cab kept shouting, “I'm OK!” but rescuers told WBNS they were concerned the semi, only feet from power lines, could fall to the ground.
Firefighters secured the vehicle and used a ladder truck to hoist a bucket and rescue the driver...
...who walked away from the scene without a scratch:
Police were investigating the cause of the crash. A tire came off the truck, which may have led to an unstable drive. The tire also could have come off at impact.
