PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh police said they responded to a call about a fight at an Easter egg decorating party and found a woman with a red and swollen right eye.
She told police that her boyfriend, 27-year-old Aaron Goempel, threw hard-boiled eggs at her after she accused him of cheating on her.
But things got much worse when cops confronted Goempel.
Authorities said that after police made their way past a makeshift barricade into a bedroom, Goempel reached for a row of knives and swords before he was subdued.
They added that he yelled racist obscenities at one officer and kicked another in the groin.
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported Sunday that Goempel was arrested on simple and aggravated assault charges, adding that his rap sheet includes guilty verdicts for disorderly conduct and public drunkenness dating back to 2008. He awaits trial on charges of harassment, prowling, assault and traffic violations.
Court records don't indicate if he has a defense attorney.
