Priest Who Stunned Wedding Guests With Viral Performance Has Some Major Plans

Father Ray Kelly, the priest who stunned wedding guests with an amazing rendition of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah," has yet another reason to rejoice: He's reportedly been offered record contracts from at least two major labels.

Kelly was approached by both Sony and Universal and is negotiating potential deals after a YouTube video of him singing the song at a wedding in Ireland went viral last month, the Irish Times reported.

"It looks like it is going to happen," he said of the deal in an interview with Irish radio host John Murray. "Ninety percent of people don’t get a break and now, at this stage of my life, it is happening for me. Dreams do come true."

Kelly told the Irish Independent a few weeks back that he had been approached by some "big record companies" and that he planned to sit down and see what they have to offer.

But while he clearly wants an international career, Kelly is still planning to remain a priest.

"I'd like to launch an international career -- but I still want to be a priest,'' he told the Independent. "I've done a few amateur CDs and it was lovely to put the voice down on vinyl. But all this would put me in a different league altogether."

Kelly said his life has changed profoundly since the video garnered 34 million views -- and that he's still adjusting to all of the fame and attention.

The "Hallelujah" video has since been removed over a copyright claim. Ironically, text at the YouTube link where the video once was cites one of the record labels that is reportedly courting Kelly: "This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Sony ATV Publishing."
