After Santa Barbara Slayings, He Had One Message for News Crews

An reported individual in Santa Barbara had one message for the media, following Friday night's mass slayings: Go home.

Standing outside the Isla Vista convenience store where a university student was fatally shot by the gunman, an unknown individual displayed a sign, telling the media, "Our tragedy is not your commodity."

"News crews, go home!" a sign in his other hand read.

The photo of the individual holding the sign was posted to Reddit Tuesday, where it quickly went viral.

A photograph snapped by the Los Angeles Times captured others holding similar signs. One woman's said, "I want to pay my respects without being filmed."

Friday night's shootings and stabbings claimed the lives of seven individuals, including the "severely mentally disturbed" suspect. Several others were hospitalized with injuries.
