The 'So You Think You Can Dance' Audition That Had the Judges Crying Out in Pain

Nothing could have prepared the trio (or the people watching at home) for what they were about to see.

What could possibly cause the three judges on Fox's "So You Think You Can Dance" to shudder in horror and disgust this week?

The panel of dance professionals had a problem with the brief audition of an 18-year-old Chicago dancer/contortionist named James Thomas.

Thomas warned the judges that his audition was going to include some of his body-bending moves. However, nothing could have prepared the trio (or the people watching at home) for what they were about to see.

Within seconds of starting his "dance," Thomas' shoulders, elbows and wrists bent in ways that would send most of us to the emergency room.

As the twisting continued, regular judges Mary Murphy, Nigel Lythgoe and guest judge Fabrice Calmels cringed and looked away — or tried to.

Approximately 60 seconds into the routine, the judges could take no more, and called for an end to the audition.

In the end, the judges offered Thomas the opportunity to learn the show's choreography routine and prove that he had more skills than a typical street performer. He did try to learn the moves, but was unable to pick up the steps. Ultimately, Thomas pulled out of the competition.

If you think you can handle it, watch Thomas' cringe-worthy audition here (he starts dancing at the 1:17 point):
