Since the War on Terror began in 2001, more than 800,000 members of our armed forces have been injured on the battlefields of Afghanistan and Iraq:

  • 50,000 have experienced life-altering injuries, such as amputations and burns.
  • 320,000 have sustained traumatic brain injuries (TBI).
  • 400,000 live with the invisible wounds of war, including combat-related stress, major depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

While some injuries are more noticeable than others, these service men and women face a long road to recovery and will require lifelong assistance with day-to-day activities. But the hardest struggle is returning to civilian life without the proper care or support our veterans and their families need.

That’s why Overstock.com, the American online retailer, has partnered with Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) to help further the mission to honor and empower Wounded Warriors.

Wounded Warrior Project has been helping wounded military members and their families adjust to life after war for more than a decade. At its inception, Wounded Warrior Project was a backpack initiative to serve injured service members in need. Today, Wounded Warrior Project has grown into the most successful nonprofit for veterans, offering 20 programs and services that are designed to engage warriors, nurture the mind and body, and encourage economic empowerment.

Since partnering with Wounded Warrior Project in 2009, Overstock.com has helped to raise over a million dollars to support programs that WWP offers to warriors and their families free of charge.

Through generous supporters like Overstock.com, Wounded Warrior Project is able to help injured servicemen and women transition home and heal from the visible and invisible wounds of war while providing comfort, care, and education to warrior families and caregivers.

As we transition into the post-war era, we are also preparing for the long-term needs of our veterans. That’s why Wounded Warrior Project created the Long-Term Support Program to help warriors fight the battle back home and ensure they get the veteran benefits, attention and support they deserve.

For many warriors, the battle continues long after they return from conflict, and they discover that the help they thought they would receive doesn’t even begin to cover what they really need. Together, Wounded Warrior Project and Overstock.com are committed to our veterans today, tomorrow, and for a lifetime.
