‘We Didn't Expect That’: Anti-Israel Protester Tricks German Police into Doing an Unusual Favor

“It was a big mistake that the police let themselves abuse for this.”

A pro-Palestinian protester duped German police into allowing him to use their vehicle megaphone to chant anti-Israel slogans and Muslim prayers at a large demonstration in Frankfurt this weekend.

A police spokeswoman told the Associated Press that forces patrolling the area felt allowing a protester to use the megaphone would calm passions among the 2,000 protesters who had begun to get violent at the Free Gaza march.

But instead of calming the crowd, the protester used the police van to heat them up further, shouting slogans including "child murderer Israel" and "Allahu akbar!" -- or "God is Great!" in Arabic.

The Times of Israel called the police action a “mega-fail.” Britain’s Independent described the scene as a “bizarre situation of having a police van driving down the main street in Frankfurt blaring out slogans including ‘child murderer Israel’ and ‘Allahu akbar.’”

"We as police had come up spontaneously with this unusual method and he abused it — we didn't expect that," police spokeswoman Virginie Wegner told the AP. "Police are neutral during protests."

The incident was captured in this video:

Dieter Graumann who heads the Central Council of Jews in Germany said, "I'm shocked that a German police car was used to spread hatred and agitation."

“It was a big mistake that the police let themselves abuse for this,” he added.
