The Eerie Incidents That Reportedly Have England's Terrified Cricket Players Making Paranormal Claims

"I'm telling you, something weird is going on."

Members of England's cricket team are apparently so convinced that their London hotel is haunted that they've reportedly been unable to sleep and have requested room changes after what one player recounts as a series of eerie and terrifying incidents.

The players, who are staying at the renowned Langham Hotel, are apparently convinced that their accommodations are haunted, with some of their wives and girlfriends so freaked out that they've refused to even stay at the hotel, according to the Daily Mail.

Stuart Broad, a right-arm seam bowler and left-handed batsman for England's cricket team, apparently opened up to the outlet about mysterious taps he's heard and a purported "presence" he claims to have felt.

"During the SriLanka Test [last month] I had to move rooms. It was so hot in the room I just couldn't sleep," Broad said of his need to switch locations during a recent match. "All of a sudden the taps in the bathroom came on for no reason. I turned the lights on and the taps turned themselves off. Then, when I turned the lights off again the taps came on. It was very weird."

He added that he also awoke in his room around 1:30 a.m. one night and was convinced that there was "a presence in the room" and that another player, Matt Prior, felt the same way. The incident sparked a few sleepless nights, Broad admitted.

"It really freaked me out," he added, noting that many of the issues are on the hotel's third floor. "I’m telling you, something weird is going on."

The Langham Hotel, which opened in 1865, has long been considered one of the nation's most "haunted" hotels, so it's possible the players knew of the folklore before staying there.

Regardless, their claim about the third floor is interesting, especially considering a past Telegraph report claiming that room 333 is where the most purported paranormal activity is observed.

"The most common sighting is of a man in Victorian evening wear in Room 333, who apparently appears only during October," the outlet reported. "Another guest claimed to have seen the figure of a man in military attire standing by the window on the fourth floor, which is said to be the ghost of a German Prince who jumped out of a window before the start of the First World War."

The hotel has done little to separate itself from these claims. In fact, there's a 2011 press release on its website highlighting that Langham is considered by some to be spirit-filled, highlighting that the most famous ghost is — you guessed it — seen in room 333.

"In 1973 a BBC Radio announcer, Alexander Gordon awoke suddenly in the night to see a fluorescent ball which slowly took on the shape of a man wearing Victorian evening wear," the release read. "The announcer asked the ghost what it wanted and it began to float towards him, with its legs cut off some two feet below the ground, arms outstretched, eyes staring emptily. At this point the announcer got up and fled."
