News Anchor Makes Stunning Announcement During Local Newscast: ‘I Am at Peace’
September 12, 2014
A local television news anchor in Illinois announced during a newscast Thursday that his cancer had returned leaving him with only months to live.
WCIA-TV's Dave Benton, 51, delivered a personal message to viewers, telling them that doctors recently detected he has a brain tumor too large to operate on.
The 51-year-old said he is undergoing some treatment to slow the tumor's progression, adding that his goal is to simply add "a few more days and make them the best they can be."
Benton, who is a born-again Christian, said he believes he is in "God's hands."[sharequote align="right"]"I am at peace..."[/sharequote]
"I am at peace and I know he's going to take care of the days ahead and that the goal here is to have the best ones possible," he said.
Benton has a wife and two children. He previously had tweeted about his battle with cancer and had completed radiation earlier this year before the cancer came back.
