Michael Phelps Just Announced What He's Planning to Do About His DUI

"I recognize that this is not my first lapse in judgment..."

Nearly a week after he was arrested and charged with drunk driving, Olympic swimming champion Michael Phelps announced on Twitter Sunday that he would take a break from swimming and pursue unspecified treatment.

"I recognize that this is not my first lapse in judgment, and I am extremely disappointed with myself," Phelps wrote. "I'm going to take some time away to attend a program that provide the help I need to better understand myself."

Phelps, 29, was charged Tuesday with driving under the influence, excessive speed and crossing double lane lines in Baltimore's Fort McHenry Tunnel.

He reportedly blew .14 on a Breathalyzer, registering a blood alcohol content level nearly twice Maryland's .08 legal limit.
