Shep Smith Cuts Off New York Times Reporter After Tense Interview

Fox News anchor Shepard Smith cut off a New York Times reporter who said Fox needed to be "careful" in its coverage during the unfolding Paris situation.

"We need to be careful in the moments after —” Steven Erlanger, the Times' London bureau chief, said on the air.

“You don’t have to tell me that,” Smith cut him off.

“That’s, I hope, true,” Erlanger said, before shifting to discuss new terror threat warnings from British security officials.

“I'm very curious, you said we need to be careful," Smith said a few moments later, returning to Erlanger's initial comments. "On what matter did you think we were not careful based on what you just said and what we just reported, Mr. Erlanger?"

"I mean, frankly, I have not been listening very carefully," Erlanger said.

"Uh-huh, so you said that because what?" Smith pressed.

“I’m not getting in a fight with you,” Erlanger said. "I'm simply saying — look you asked me to come and talk to you, I'm telling you what I think I know which is that —

"What you told me is you thought we needed to be careful and what I can report to you, sir, is that we're being very careful," Smith said, talking over Erlanger.

"I’m sorry, sir, either you’re going to let me talk or you’re not," Erlanger said.

With that, Smith was done: "Steve Erlanger from the New York Times, it's nice to speak with you."
