Soccer Player Is Released From Team 'Effective Immediately' for Unhinged Reaction After Loss

"...I won't stand for it."

An American professional soccer player was left with a nasty head wound after a player from the opposing team blindsided him with a headbutt following the conclusion of a weekend game.

Baltimore Blast captain Pat Healey was left with a bloodied face after Missouri Comets defender Andre Braithwaite unexpectedly attacked him on the field.

The entire incident was captured on video and shows Braithwaite calmly walk up to Healey before suddenly striking him in a brazen attack.

The Comets responded quick, tweeting out that the defender was "released from the team effective immediately."

The incident was described by Blast owner Ed Hale as a "full blown riot" and added that criminal charges would be filed against Braithwaite, WMAR-TV reported.

Hale also said he wasn't entirely satisfied with Braithwaite only being released from the Comets.

"He needs to serve a suspension," the Blast owner said, according to WMAR.

According to Hale, the incident was sparked by aggressive antics on the field, which resulted in Comets player Brian Harris being ejected from the game earlier.

"He tried to break his leg," Hale said, speaking of Harris' move. "These guys were trying to maim our players and I won't stand for it."

The Baltimore Blast defeated the Missouri Comets 10-7.
