She Was a Famous Porn Star Who Left the Industry After Finding God. And Here's What Happened After She Took a Year Away From Dating.

"I was depressed. I was suicidal. I hated myself."

Ex-porn star Brittni Ruiz says God has "transformed" her heart and mind, and that her highly publicized exit from the adult film industry after converting to Christianity also lead her closest family members to join the faith.

Ruiz, 27, who appeared on The Church Boys podcast over the weekend, dove deeper into her very personal story, explaining how she believes becoming a Christian transformed not only her actions, but also her perspective.

"The best thing that I decided to do was to stay single for a little over a year," Ruiz said, recapping how she decided not to date and, instead, devoted herself to God after leaving porn behind. "I just became this new creation in Christ. God — he transformed my way of thinking."

She said that, over the course of the year, she felt as though all of her sins were no longer a part of her, and that she was "completely healed by Jesus."

Listen to her interview with The Church Boys below (it begins at the 23:00 mark):

Ruiz, who was known by her stage name, Jenna Presley, said that it is challenging to consider that her past sins are still on display for the world to see, as the porn videos she starred in are still online.

While it's discouraging, she said she doesn't spend a lot of time thinking about the clips and images, as she focuses, instead, on the positive.

"Everybody has a past, but to know that my past is out there for the world to see, and that even being a Christian woman now who — I have vowed not to have sex to marriage," she said. "I want to do everything God says I should do. I want to be obedient to his word … to know that people can still look up my past online, it's a little … discouraging."

Ruiz also encouraged people to consider the internal pain that she believes many porn stars experience.

"If they're having sex on camera for money, what do you think they think about themselves?" she rhetorically asked, sharing her own past experience. "I was depressed. I was suicidal. I hated myself."

Ruiz continued, "When you look at somebody who's committing any kind of sin, public or not … have the same mercy that God had with you and try to seek understanding for why they're doing what they're doing."

She said it's important to show these individuals the love of God. As for what Ruiz would personally tell those still working in porn — especially those looking for a way out — she said that she would affirm that hope and perseverance are key.

"Don't believe the lies that the enemy puts into your mind. Don't believe those negative thoughts of, 'Who's ever going to hire me' … you can get a regular job. You can get out of it," she said. "You just have to have that will power and that desire to get out of it."

Ruiz encouraged porn stars struggling and looking for a way out to try reading the Bible, going to church and turning to God, as she said that's where she found her strength to finally leave smut behind.

Her own spiritual journey has also led her family members to join her in becoming Christians, with her brother, sister, mother, father and cousins also praying with her to accept Jesus, an act that orthodox believers undertake to become official followers of Christ.

"It was really cool. They just started really falling like flies," she said. "God's goodness and love is leading my family toward repentance."
