NBC Host Reveals Plan for Upcoming Interview with Donald Trump

"I haven't been afriad to confront him..."

"Meet the Press" host Chuck Todd has a plan for how he'll handle his upcoming interview with grandiose 2016 Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump — repetition.

In an interview with Sirius XM radio host Michael Smerconish, Todd said that in order to get a simple answer from Trump to his questions, he'll just ask them repetitively. Todd referenced "Will Ferrell's 'Austin Powers'" character — who would have an answer to a question after it was asked multiple times — as his inspiration.

"I think ultimately with Trump, I may only need 10 questions, I just have to re-ask them each three times each," Todd said.

"You may need only three questions," Smerconish replied.

Todd also said that for interviewees such as Trump, having enough time is important in order to get questioned answered and expressed his preference for in-person interviews as it gives him the opportunity to interrupt people who aren't used to getting interrupted in a non-confrontational way.

"I haven't been afraid to confront him, and I think [phone interviews] are harder to do follow-ups," Todd said.

"My view is, we're going to go until he tries to stop it," the NBC host told Smerconish. "And I want to go deep in policy. This is what it's about. Is he prepared? What does he really want to do, because all we get are generalities from him."

Todd said he was also prepared for the chance that Trump may "go bonkers on" him during the interview.

Todd and Trump have had tumultuous history, with Trump referring to the NBC host as a "dummy" and "sleepy eyes." In 2013, Todd referred to a potential future presidential bid from Trump as a "P.R. stunt."

Todd's interview with the real estate mogul is slated to air August 16, despite Trump initially saying he wasn't sure if he would go on the program and help its ratings.
