Ted Cruz's Father Delivers Stirring Prayer Before Massive Restoring Unity March: 'Put Away Differences and Stand Together

"We are honored to be able to be counted worthy to march as soldiers of the cross, father."

Rafael Cruz, father of Texas senator and 2016 Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz, delivered a passionate prayer before Saturday's Unity March in Birmingham, Alabama, thanking God for the massive crowd's decision to stand "united in one accord."

"I thank you, father, for this day that America and the rest of the world will see that we as Christians are united in solidarity to exult your name, Lord God," Cruz said. "To put away differences and stand together."

Acknowledging that the nation — and the world — have seen "troubles" of late, he praised God as being greater than any of the difficulties or evils that arise.

"In spite of all the troubles that we have seen all around us, father, greater are you, oh Lord, God, that are in us than he that is in the world," Cruz continued. "We stand with the king of kings and Lord or lords ... We are honored to be able to be counted worthy to march as soldiers of the cross, father."

In the past, Cruz has described his own personal journey escaping Cuba and working hard to build a life for himself in the U.S. Read more about that here.
