Conservative pundit Charles Krauthammer said Wednesday that if either Marco Rubio or Ted Cruz lose their home state to Donald Trump it would almost certainly spell the end of their campaigns.
"If either loses their home state to Trump, they have to pull out," Krauthammer said on the Fox News Channel.
Rubio currently trails Trump in Florida and a new poll released Wednesday indicated Cruz was in a statistical dead heat with the billionaire in Texas.
Krauthammer advised both Rubio and Cruz to find an "attack line" that can be deployed on Trump to freeze his momentum.
"You want to do a distraction," the syndicated columnist said. "I think you kind of go after him on the tax returns. I think Romney is onto something. I think it can be deflected, I'm not sure it'll be effective, but nothing else that has been tried is going to work."
