While campaigning for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton in New York Monday, Cecile Richards, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood, criticized Clinton's potential Republican rival Texas Sen. Ted Cruz.
“A woman voting for Ted Cruz is like a chicken voting for Colonel Sanders,” Richards said.
Planned Parenthood has endorsed Clinton, and Richards has been campaigning on her behalf.
Twitter users questioned Richards’ analogy.
The lobbying arm of Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider, has sharply criticized Cruz and his pro-life platform throughout the campaign.
According to Real Clear Politics' average of polls in the New York Democratic presidential primary, Clinton leads Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders by 12 points in the state she represented as a senator.
