In Major Fundraising Push, Trump Says He'll Match Campaign Donations Up To $2 Million

Donald Trump is seeking to solve his campaign's fundraising problems by reaching into his own coffers.

The billionaire and presumptive Republican presidential nominee sent out a fundraising email to supporters this morning after yesterday's news that he's been seriously outpaced by likely Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in the funding category.

Trump, who often bragged on the primary trail about self-funding his campaign, pointed out that this is the first fundraising email he's sending on the campaign's behalf. He added that he plans to make it "the most successful introductory fundraising email in modern political history" by pledging to personally match all donations in the next 48 hours, up to $2 million.

The former Secretary of State’s campaign had $42 million on hand at the end of May, and her super PAC, Priorities USA, has $52 million. Trump just began actively fundraising last month, but has raised only $3.1 million for his campaign war chest and $500,000 in his Super PAC.

The staffing shakeup, plus Trump's financial position put the Republican at a disadvantage against his Democratic rival with less than a month until the parties' conventions kick off.
