StemExpress whistleblower disputes claim Planned Parenthood was reimbursed for ‘shipping costs’

In a new video released Tuesday by the pro-life Center for Medical Progress, a former StemExpress employee disputed Planned Parenthood’s claim that they were merely reimbursed for costs associated with donations of aborted fetal body parts to researchers.

What was the claim?

After the Center for Medical Progress released undercover videos alleging that Planned Parenthood was selling aborted fetal body parts for profit, spokespersons for the nation’s largest abortion provider said that the organization was reimbursed for costs associated with donations to researchers.

“There are shipping costs,” Dawn Laguens, executive vice president of Planned Parenthood, told CNN’s Alisyn Camerota in July 2015.

The same month, Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos argued her organization was reimbursed for “the cost of transmitting this material to research institutions.”

Profiting from the sale of human organs, including those of the unborn, is illegal in the United States.

What did the whistleblower say?

In the latest installment of a series of videos featuring Holly O’Donnell, a former StemExpress procurement technician, O’Donnell disputed the claims of Planned Parenthood executives that they were merely reimbursed for shipping costs.

“Planned Parenthood never shipped anything,” she said. “We did all the shipping.”

O’Donnell said that procurement technicians “got our bonuses based on [each] organ.”

She said she never saw a Planned Parenthood employee transport the specimens she was procuring.

“They made us do the dirty work,” O’Donnell said.

O’Donnell said that one of the Planned Parenthood medical assistants was reprimanded for refusing to coordinate with her. She said the assistant was told to work with her because “we need the money.”

“Now I kind of don’t blame her,” O’Donnell said of the assistant, adding, “some of the staff at some of these clinics knew exactly what was going on, that they were getting compensated by the tissues.”

In a statement, David Daleiden the founder of the Center for Medical Progress, said, “Planned Parenthood’s executive team repeatedly lied to the public and to the news media when they promised StemExpress was only paying them for ‘shipping costs.’”

“Holly O’Donnell’s testimony totally debunks Planned Parenthood’s fake excuse for the money they took for aborted baby body parts,” Daleiden said. “Any defense Planned Parenthood had is now totally discredited, and Congress and the Administration should move immediately to hold Planned Parenthood accountable under the law.”
