Abortionist testimony describes Planned Parenthood methods resulting in live births for alleged fetal organ harvesting

'There's no question in my mind that at least some of these fetuses were live births'

A California abortionist who said he has performed more than 50,000 abortions in his career testified under oath last week that some Planned Parenthood abortionists are using methods that result in live births, presumably in order to better preserve the fetal organs for harvesting and research, according to LifeSiteNews.

Dr. Forrest Smith testified under oath last Wednesday as an expert witness for the defense in the case of David Daleiden and Sandra Merritt, who face multiple felony charges of recording confidential information without consent. Their 2015 videos showed Planned Parenthood executives discussing the sale of fetal remains.

In his testimony, Smith said he believed some doctors administering large doses of Misoprostol, a drug that is used to induce labor, to trigger "tumultuous labor" that results in "fetal expulsion" for second trimester abortions.

When this method is used without the drug Digoxin, which serves to kill the fetus by stopping its heart, the fetus can be expelled from the uterus with a heartbeat — making it a live birth, regardless of whether it is moving or breathing.

"There's no question in my mind that at least some of these fetuses were live births," Smith testified.

The doctor stressed that the beating heart is the determining factor in whether it is a live birth, despite some abortionists in Daleiden's and Merritt's videos applying standards of no breathing or no movement. He said when a baby is born alive during an attempted abortion, it must receive "resuscitative care" otherwise it will "die by neglect."

Smith is certainly not opposed to abortion, which he freely admitted during his testimony was the killing of a human, but he opposed the aforementioned methods because they can prolong the procedure and put the patient at higher risk.

"You can kill a human being, which I admit abortion is, but you have to do it in certain ways," Smith said, also testifying that patients should have the right to "choose the mechanics of the death of your fetus."

Smith's testimony is relevant to the case because Daleiden and Merritt are attempting to defend themselves on the grounds that the covert taping of confidential information is legal when collecting evidence of violent crimes.
