'Three's Company' actress Suzanne Somers dead at 76

Actress Suzanne Somers died on Sunday at 76. She would have turned 77 on Monday.

"Suzanne Somers passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours of October 15th. She survived an aggressive form of breast cancer for over 23 years," said R. Couri Hay – the longtime publicist for the "Three's Company" actress.

"Suzanne was surrounded by her loving husband Alan, her son Bruce, and her immediate family," the statement read. "Her family was gathered to celebrate her 77th birthday on October 16th. Instead, they will celebrate her extraordinary life, and want to thank her millions of fans and followers who loved her dearly."

Somers was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2000.

In July, Somers updated her fans about her health condition in an Instagram post that stated:

Since I have been taking time off from work, many of you have asked for more details about my health. As you know, I had breast cancer two decades ago, and every now and then it pops up again, and I continue to bat it down. I have used the best alternative and conventional treatments to combat it. This is not new territory for me. I know how to put on my battle gear and I’m a fighter. Alan has been by my side every step of the way. I can’t even explain how much he has done for me. If it’s even possible, we are even closer than ever. My incredible family has been so supportive, and have helped so much by keeping the business running so you can still have access to all the wonderful products. Thank you for the continued love and support. It’s only about who you love and who loves you - and I love you!

Somers is best known for her role as Chrissy Snow in the TV sitcom "Three's Company" along with actors John Ritter, Joyce DeWitt, and Don Knotts. "Three's Company" aired from 1976 until 1984.

The celebrity actress known for her comedic abilities also starred in the hit sitcom "Step by Step" from 1991 until 1998.

Somers is survived by her husband of 46 years, Alan Hamel, her son from her previous marriage in the 1970s, and six grandchildren.

A private family burial will take place this week, and a memorial will be held in November.
