'You hate Jews': Amy Schumer refuses to back down over outrage from fans because she defends Israel

Comedian Amy Schumer will not apologize for defending Israel.

In the weeks since Hamas' barbaric attack on Israel, Schumer has posted numerous pro-Israel messages to social media. She has brought attention to hostages, warned against a ceasefire knowing one would only reward Hamas, and refused to make equivalencies between Israel and Hamas while still mourning the Palestinian civilians whom Hamas uses as human shields.

Schumer's position is not surprising. She is Jewish and a descendant of Auschwitz survivors. But she is quickly learning that anti-Semitism infects far-left progressive circles because her messages supportive of Israel have drawn personal attacks against her.

On Wednesday, Schumer finally responded to that criticism.

"Couple things," she began. "What I want is EVERY HOSTAGE BACK. I want safety and freedom from Hamas for Palestinians and Israelis. I want safety for Jewish people and Muslims as well. Everyone. Just like you. I want peace.

"You will never see me wishing harm on anyone. Saying I'm Islamophobic or that I like genocide is crazy," she added.

Schumer then addressed specific attacks against her.

"When you say I'm rich please add in 'SELF MADE,'" she said, "I come come [sic] being dirt poor."

"Senator Chuck Schumer is my dads 2nd cousin once removed. I didn't meet him until I was 25. I have never been given any money to support a cause other than tampons. I've never stolen a joke," she continued. "People calling me a failed comic. I'm the most successful female comedian of all time. I'm ugly/fat okay Sorry you aren't attracted to me. I found someone who is. I hope you find someone too."

Schumer ended with a zinger to anyone who hates Israel and Jews.

"We are in a lot of pain. What hurts the most is that we all actually love each other. You hate Jews. You don't know why. I still love you," she concluded.

Earlier this week, Schumer revealed that she has lost friends for supporting Israel.

"I'm sad to have lost so many friends these last few weeks but feel powerful and free knowing I stand for the truth and will fight for it always," Schumer said. "I'm a proud Jewish woman and have every right to be. Head high. Spirits high. Love to my fellow brothers and sisters."

Schumer has faced attacks not only from no-name social media users, but even a senior-level aide to Los Angeles City Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martínez (D) personally attacked Schumer with fat jokes and Holocaust references. That aide, Josh Androsky, later resigned.
