Biden announces first-ever US 'national strategy' to counter Islamophobia

The White House announced the first national strategy to counter Islamophobia amidst clashes between supporters of Israel and defenders of Hamas in the wake of a terror attack in the Middle East.

"President Biden ran for office to restore the soul of our nation. He is unequivocal: there is no place for hate in America against anyone. Period," read a statement from White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on Wednesday.

"For too long, Muslims in America, and those perceived to be Muslim, such as Arabs and Sikhs, have endured a disproportionate number of hate-fueled attacks and other discriminatory incidents," the statement continued.

The statement went on to cite the brutal murder of a 6-year-old Muslim boy allegedly at the hands of a landlord who, according to detectives, targeted the family over the terrorist attack on Israel by Hamas militants.

The administration was immediately assailed by critics and detractors who accused them of focusing on the wrong form of hatred.

"After the worst massacre of Jews since the Holocaust and a breakout of pro-Hamas activism on campus, the White House is claiming *Islamophobia* is our top concern," read a response from Republican Sen. Tom Cotton of Arkansas.

Defenders of the administration pointed out that Biden had announced a national effort to opposed anti-Semitism in May.

Still others cited recent polling showing plummeting support for Democrats and Biden from Arab-Americans and opined that perhaps the administration was trying to appeal to Muslims. One poll from the Arab American Institute found that support for Democrats had fallen among Arab-Americans from 59% in 2020 to 35% after the attack in Israel.

Jean-Pierre had previously faced mockery and scorn after a reporter asked her what the administration was doing to counter anti-Semitism, and she offered a bizarre response criticizing Islamophobia. She later claimed that she had misheard the question.

"Moving forward, the President, Vice President, and our entire Administration will continue working to ensure every American has the freedom to live their lives in safety and without fear for how they pray, what they believe, and who they are," the current White House statement concluded.
