Biden family whistleblower on the run after federal indictment unsealed, claims DOJ is 'trying to bury' him

A man who informed federal agents about the Biden family's allegedly corrupt business dealings with China is on the run after he was slapped with his own federal indictment for, among other things, allegedly corrupt dealings with China.

Back in March 2019, Gal Luft, a dual U.S.-Israeli citizen, met with members of the FBI and the DOJ to inform them that the Chinese energy company CEFC had been shelling out $100,000 a month to Hunter Biden and $65,000 to Jim Biden, Joe Biden's brother, in exchange for political favors. Luft also alleged that at least one senior FBI agent worked as Hunter Biden's "mole," tipping off some of Hunter's Chinese business associates who were under surveillance.

"I'm not a Republican. I'm not a Democrat. I have no political motive or agenda," Luft said in a video recently released by the New York Post. "... I did it out of deep concern that if the Bidens were to come to power, the country would be facing the same traumatic Russia collusion scandal, only this time with China."

Despite Luft's claims of political disinterestedness, his whistleblower reports apparently went nowhere. "I never thought of coming forward," Luft said on the video. "Through 2020, I sat quiet like a fish."

Then in Nov. 2022, shortly before the midterm election, a federal grand jury indicted Luft on several charges, including failing to register as a foreign agent, arms trafficking with China, brokering an illegal Iranian oil deal, and lying to federal agents. In February, Luft was arrested in Cyprus in connection to that indictment. After his arrest, he was released on bail, at which point, he quickly fled and went into hiding.

"The chances of me getting a fair trial in Washington are virtually zero," Luft told the Post. "I had to do what I had to do."

On Monday, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York unsealed the indictment against Luft. "As the charges unsealed today reflect, our Office will continue to work vigorously with our law enforcement partners to detect and hold accountable those who surreptitiously attempt to perpetrate malign foreign influence campaigns here in the United States," said Damian Williams, one of the prosecutors in the case.

Despite the accusations of grave corruption involving nefarious foreign "principals," Luft and several high-profile Republicans have alleged that the indictment is an attempt to silence Luft, who was scheduled to testify before Congress about his information regarding the Bidens.

"Is DOJ trying to silence Dr. Gal Luft from publicly exposing Biden family corruption?" Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) asked on Sunday.

"Gal Luft, a very credible witness on Biden family corruption, provided incriminating evidence to six officials from the FBI and the DOJ in a meeting in Brussels in March 2019," Rep. Jim Comer (R-Ky.) stated. "We have no reason to believe the FBI & DOJ acted on this info. Americans deserve answers."

"DOJ is trying to bury me to protect Joe, Jim and Hunter Biden," Luft tweeted after his arrest in Cyprus.

For now, Luft, 57, remains a fugitive wanted by the FBI. Should he be convicted of all the charges against him, he will face up to 100 years in prison. The U.S. Attorney's Office in New York did not respond to requests for comment from several outlets, including Newsweek and Insider.

"I, who volunteered to inform the U.S. government about a potential security breach and about compromising information about a man vying to be the next president, am now being hunted by the very same people who I informed — and may have to live on the run for the rest of my life on the run," Luft said on the video, filmed at an unknown location at an unknown time.

"I warned the government about potential risks to the integrity of the 2020 elections," Luft added. "... Just think about it and ask yourself, 'Who's a real criminal in this story?'"
