Trump predicts DeSantis' 'whole campaign will be a disaster'; DeSantis campaign says it scored over $1 million fundraising haul in an hour

After Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced a presidential bid on Wednesday, his campaign claimed that it had scored more than $1 million in an hour.

"Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced his campaign for president tonight to lead our Great American Comeback in a conversation with Elon Musk on Twitter Spaces. The conversation garnered so much attention that DeSantis literally broke the Internet and raised more than $1 million online in the first hour of his campaign," the press release claimed.

DeSantis released a video announcing his White House bid just ahead of a Twitter Spaces conversation with Elon Musk had been scheduled to start. The Twitter Spaces event suffered technical difficulties but was eventually held on the social media platform via a different user's channel.

Former President Donald Trump pounced on the Twitter debacle.

"Wow! The DeSanctus TWITTER launch is a DISASTER! His whole campaign will be a disaster. WATCH!" Trump declared on Truth Social. "Is the DeSantis launch FATAL? Yes!" he wrote in another post.

Responding to the press release about DeSantis' fundraising haul, Trump senior adviser Jason Miller tweeted, "Forget $1 million. $1 BILLION couldn't fix the damage done to DeSantis' campaign with today's failed launch."

Trump has been targeting DeSantis for months. Polls have shown DeSantis to be in second place behind Trump, though Trump holds a large lead.

The Florida governor secured a decisive re-election victory last year in the Sunshine State's gubernatorial contest, which means that if he were to become president, he would not finish his term as the state's governor.
