Ex-elementary school principal charged with 5 felony counts of sexual misconduct with a minor

A former Indiana elementary school principal is facing charges of sexual misconduct with a minor after reportedly engaging in sex acts with a 15-year-old student in the district.

What are the details?

Authorities arrested 34-year-old Ashley A. Breedlove of Farmland, Indiana, on Tuesday and charged her with five counts of sexual misconduct with a minor, the Muncie Star Press reported on Tuesday.

The outlet reported that one of the five charges is a Level 4 felony, which carries up to 12 years in prison.

The other four charges are Level 5 felonies with maximum six-year sentences.

In a statement on Breedlove's arrest, the Union School Corporation said that Breedlove resigned as principal of Union Elementary School on Oct. 18.

The victim was reportedly a student at nearby Union High School. It is not known at the time of this reporting whether the teen is a former student of Breedlove.

One of the sexual encounters was said to have taken place in her office at the elementary school.

"Providing a safe school environment and a high-quality education to our students have always been paramount," district Superintendent Michael Huber said in a statement on the disturbing news. "With this in mind, Union School Corporation supports the ongoing investigation being conducted by the Randolph County Sheriff's Department and Randolph County prosecutor's office."

Breedlove's bond was set at $12,000, according to a report from WTHR-TV.

What else?

A Tuesday report from WISH-TV pointed out that Randolph Circuit Court sealed the case, making details on the allegations unavailable to the public.

Captain Tom Pullins of the Randolph County Sheriff's Department added that all questions should be referred to the Randolph County Prosecutor's Office.

Prosecutor David M. Daly did not respond to WISH's inquiry on Tuesday afternoon, and it remains unknown at the time of this reporting whether Breedlove remained incarcerated after being charged.

The details of Breedlove's next court date have yet to be announced to the public.
