'F*** the suburbs': Democrat lawmaker gets potty-mouthed on state Senate floor, adds suburbanites 'don’t know a godd**n thing about how life is in the city'

Democrat Wisconsin state Sen. LaTonya Johnson said "f*** the suburbs" in a Wednesday address on the floor of the state Senate, adding that suburbanites "don’t know a goddamn thing about how life is in the city."

Here's Johnson — who represents Milwaukee's 6th District — in action. (Content warning: language)

Johnson's outburst reportedly came during a debate over crime spilling over from cities to suburbs.

Well, Steve Schuster — managing editor of the Wisconsin Law Journal — didn't take kindly to the lawmaker's words and called on Johnson to resign.

Schuster wrote that crime spilling over into suburbs "is the reality of the world we live in. We need leaders who will work together with local, county, state and federal officials to make our communities better," according to his Thursday op-ed.

"In my opinion, State Sen. LaTonya Johnson is not fit for office and Wisconsin deserves someone who loves Wisconsin — all of Wisconsin — rural, urban and suburban," he added in his piece.

Schuster also asked, "What if a suburban senator said, 'F*** the city'[?] How would that play in Milwaukee?"

He concluded by declaring, "Hate for the suburbs or anyone or any place in Wisconsin has no home here. Resign Sen. LaTonya Johnson, Wisconsin doesn’t have the time for your hate and lack of civility."

Other folks had no patience for Johnson's words, either:

  • "Wow, what a horrible human being," one commenter offered.
  • "She’s a closet racist," another user declared.
  • "Most peeps in the burbs know exactly what life is like in the city," another commenter opined. "That's why they live in the burbs!!"
  • "We know exactly how it is to live in the city," another user agreed. "That's why we were smart enough to move out of them."

Anything else?

It appears Johnson hasn't yet addressed her outburst, but she dropped another profanity in a Twitter thread about Wednesday's battle in the state Senate over the 2023-25 state budget.

Johnson noted in one unredacted post that that Wisconsin "has been missing opportunities to grow for years because Republicans, despite their constant culture war bulls**t, only care about one thing — rigging the tax code in favor of wealthy donors and special interests."
