Fox News' Kat Timpf apologizes after joke about Jimmy Kimmel's child

An honest mistake

Fox News' Kat Timpf was forced to apologize after making a joke about comedian and TV host Jimmy Kimmel's summer-long break.

Kimmel announced last week that he would be taking the summer off to spend more time with his family.

His abrupt hiatus follows the backlash that resulted from recently resurfaced video in which Kimmel dressed up in blackface and appeared to mock the intelligence of a former NBA player.

What are the details?

Timpf appeared on Fox News' "Greg Gutfield Show," where the two personalities discussed Kimmel's upcoming break and pointed out that it's nearly as hard to take care of a cat as of a child.

"As a childless metropolitan woman in her thirties, I can't stand why having kids is always the only reason you can get out of whatever you want and people can't say anything," she said. "You know what, I've got to give my cat heart medicine every night, all right? That's pretty hard."

"Sometimes kids need medicine, but it's a lot harder to hold down a cat than a kid," she joked. "Babies don't have claws, and if they do, you should see a priest."

Gutfield interjected, pointing out that Kimmel has a toddler with a "serious heart condition."

Timpf explained that she had no idea about Kimmel's family situation.

"Oh, I didn't know that," a visibly shaken Timpf said. "Sorry."

She expounded on her apology later during the segment.

"First of all, I'm very sorry for what I said in the last segment," she said. "I was just trying to make a lighthearted joke. I had no idea. I'm sorry to Jimmy Kimmel, and I am sorry to America. I had no idea, and I'm very sorry. I'm an idiot."

What else?

Needless to say, Timpft took a lot of flak on social media for her remarks.

One user wrote, "[W]ell, aren't you just the ignorant and heartless piece of human waste. So quick to try and belittle someone for wanting to take care of their child ... with a serious heart condition. Sorry, doesn't compare to giving a cat meds."

Another added, "Holy s***, that 'joke' about Kimmel's kid was epic. It showed your true self. A hack willing to go on Fox to be the funny girl that's not funny at all. The look on your face was amazing."

Many social media users, however, were quick to defend Timpf and her innocent ignorance.

"Cancel culture at it again. Most of you commenting didn't watch the show or the next segment where she apologized profusely. Media manipulation," one user wrote.

Another added, "She was horrified when she realized her jokes for using kids as a get out of work free card fell flat because she's was unaware of Kimmel's sons illness Kat is really sweet She just crawled into herself with grief over the situation Her face couldn't hide it She apologized."
