Jeffrey Epstein found semi-conscious in jail with marks on neck — sources say ‘possible suicide attempt’

Authorities discovered accused pedophile and businessman Jeffrey Epstein semi-conscious in a New York City jail with marks on his neck.

According to WCBS-TV, a possible suicide attempt is not being ruled out at this time.

Epstein is being held at Metropolitan Correctional Center ahead of his trial for conspiracy and sex trafficking. Epstein has pleaded not guilty. You can read more about the allegations against the wealthy financier here.

What are the details?

Epstein was reportedly discovered in his cell "semi-conscious" in the "fetal position," and with "marks on his neck."

WCBS reported that two sources close to the incident "question if Epstein tried to hang himself," while a third source "wondered if Epstein was trying to get a transfer" out of the facility. A fourth source told the outlet that assault had not been ruled out, and an inmate was reportedly questioned in connection with the incident.

The inmate in question — Nicholas Tartaglione — is reportedly a former Westchester County police officer who was arrested in 2016 after reportedly killing four men in an alleged cocaine distribution conspiracy, according to WCBS. Tartaglione reportedly buried the bodies of the four men in his backyard in Orange County. Tartaglione reportedly insisted that he saw nothing and was not involved in the alleged incident.

An attorney for Tartaglione said that his client and Epstein get along well, and that both are in fine condition.

"They are in the same unit and doing well," attorney Bruce Barket told WCBS, insisting that the allegations his client may have been involved in the alleged incident "is absolutely not true."

At the time of this writing, specific details of the alleged incident remain unclear. Epstein is now reportedly on suicide watch inside the same institution.
