Alarming footage shows moment Biden appears to forget Hamas' name — and a reporter is forced to step in and help

President Joe Biden appeared to forget the name of the terrorist group that refuses to release hostages taken during the Oct. 7 attack on Israel.

On Tuesday, a reporter asked Biden about ongoing negotiations between Hamas and Israel to secure the release of the remaining 132 hostages and end the war. Hamas rejected Israel's latest offer, producing a counteroffer of its own that Israel found completely unacceptable.

"What needs to get done for the hostage deal to get resolved, sir?" the reporter asked.

"There is some movement, and I don't wanna, I don't wanna..." Biden responded before pausing, closing his eyes, and staring ahead blankly.

"Let me choose my words— there's some movement, there's been...a response from the, uh...," the president continued, clearly struggling to find the correct word. "There's been a response...from...the opposition, but, um—"

Finally, a reporter had to step in and help Biden remember Hamas' name.

"Hamas," the reporter interjected.

"Yes — I'm sorry — from Hamas," Biden finally said.

The alarming incident came just two days after Biden told a crowd in Las Vegas that he spoke with François Mitterrand after winning the presidency. But that's not true because Mitterrand has been dead since 1996. Instead, Biden meant to say "Macron," a reference to the current president of France, Emmanuel Macron, according to the official transcript of Biden's remarks.

Meanwhile, the latest NBC News poll found that more than three-fourths of voters are concerned whether the 81-year-old commander in chief has the physical and mental aptitude required of the president.

Rep. Dean Phillips (D-Minn.), who is challenging Biden for the White House, said Tuesday that these two incidents demonstrate how the Democratic Party is steering America "into a disaster" by pushing Biden's re-election.

"I'm attacked for being honest and saying the quiet part out loud — the part DC insiders only do in private. I admire our President. I voted for him and campaigned for him. He has visited my home and been gracious to my family and our country," Phillips said.

"But shame on all of you pretending everything is OK. You are leading us — and him — into a disaster, and you damn well know it," he added.
