'Law and Order' crew member murdered during production in NYC

A member of the crew for the show "Law and Order: Organized Crime" was shot and killed while working in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The 31-year-old unidentified man was charged with saving and monitoring parking spaces during production. At approximately 5:15 am, the man was sitting in his car on North Henry Street in Greenpoint, Brooklyn when someone opened his car door and fired a gun at him.

According to reports, a bullet from the gun hit both his head and neck, causing catastrophic injuries. He was discovered unconscious in his vehicle. Emergency medical teams rushed him to Woodhull Medical Center and attempted to revive him, but he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.

Members of the local community said that the deceased and others had been patrolling and reserving parking spots for the show for some time now.

"They're just doing their job, just setting out cones and making sure cars are where they belong," Ian Oberholtzer, a neighborhood resident, told reporters. "Nothing out of the ordinary, and everyone's very used to it by now."

"Law and Order" executives at NBC have since issued a statement, expressing their sadness and their condolences to the man's friends and family.

"We were terribly saddened and shocked to hear that one of our crew members was the victim of a crime early this morning and has died as a result," a representative said.

"We are working with local law enforcement as they continue to investigate. Our hearts go out to his family and friends, and we ask that you respect their privacy during this time."

Police say that they have no suspects and no leads in the case, but that they will continue to reach out to local businesses and residents who may have inadvertently captured the crime on their surveillance cameras.

"Law and Order: Organized Crime" is an offshoot of the famed "Law and Order" TV series which began over thirty years ago. "Organized Crime" features Christopher Meloni reprising his role as Detective Elliot Stabler. The second season concluded in May, and members of the show are currently filming a third season.
