Viral video shows student being brutally beaten during fight of Parkland high school students: 'These people are animals'

A brutal fight between students of a Florida high school led to one student being hospitalized with a skull fracture.

Viral video that appeared online showed a chaotic scene during the fight at the North Community Park adjacent to Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

At one point, a student carried another over his shoulder and slammed his head into the concrete. The victim appeared unconscious after the attack.

A friend of the victim said he had been chased away before the victim was brutally beaten.

“I was there when they started chasing him, but when I left, he was in an ambulance,” recalled the young man. “I heard that he fractured his skull. I just know he’s OK and I hope that doesn’t happen again.”

WPLG-TV broadcast one video that didn't clearly show the attack on the student but other video online showed in graphic detail how he was slammed on his head.

Coral Springs Police released a statement about the incident and said that they were called to the park at about 3 p.m.

"One student was transported by CSPFD to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Coral Springs Police Detectives are conducting a full investigation into this matter," read the statement.

Some of the students who witnessed the attack spoke to WPLG.

"All I can think was, 'These people are animals' and I just left," said senior Matthew Booth.

Another student said the beating happened after a small argument.

Michelle Kefford, the principal of Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School, also released a statement about the beating.

"Several students were involved in a physical altercation and one student was injured," she wrote. "While this park is not a school or district-operated property, the safety of our students is always our priority, and we are working with law enforcement to help identify those involved."

One parent demanded to know why there wasn't enough security protecting his children who are students at the school.

"I was really outraged. Very livid. You know, this shouldn't happen. Especially with the history that Douglas has recently, you would think there would be more security," said Ed Rodriguez, referring to the horrific mass shooting from 2018.

He also pointed out that the park was used as overflow parking by the school.

No arrests have been made yet in the incident, but WPLG reported that police had begun to contact some of the students involved in the fight.
