'They are savages': Netanyahu  vows Israel will win war, says Hamas 'made a mistake of historic proportions'

'We will exact a price that will be remembered ... for decades to come'

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has condemned Hamas' brutal attacks against Israel, describing the assault as "a mistake of historic proportions."

"Israel is at war. We didn't want this war. It was forced upon us in the most brutal and savage way. But though Israel didn't start this war, Israel will finish it. Once, the Jewish people were stateless. Once, the Jewish people were defenseless. No longer," the prime minister said.

"Hamas will understand that by attacking us, they've made a mistake of historic proportions. We will exact a price that will be remembered by them and Israel’s other enemies for decades to come," Netanyahu declared.

Netanyahu, who has noted that the Hamas hostilities have included the killing of children and the elderly, has also noted that women, children, and Holocaust survivors have been kidnapped.

"Hamas terrorists bound, burned and executed children. They are savages," he said.

Netanyahu expressed gratitude toward President Joe Biden "for his unequivocal support."

"In fighting Hamas, Israel is not only fighting for its own people. It is fighting for every country that stands against barbarism," he said.

The Israeli prime minister declared that Israel will be victorious and that the victory will mark a win for all of the civilized world.

Some Americans have been slain in the deadly attacks, according to a statement by President Joe Biden. The statement also indicates that Americans may be among those who have been taken hostage by Hamas.

"Sadly, we now know that at least 11 American citizens were among those killed—many of whom made a second home in Israel," Biden said in the statement. "While we are still working to confirm, we believe it is likely that American citizens may be among those being held by Hamas."
