NYPD says MS-13 gang is preparing to carry out attacks on cops at their homes

Be warned

The New York Police Department warned its officers this week that MS-13 members are seeking to put a "hit" on police officers in certain areas of Long Island.

The notorious gang members are looking to attack officers to gain street credibility.

What are the details?

The department reported that they received information on planned attacks by MS-13 members, according to WCBS-TV.

MS-13 is a violent crime organization with ties to Central America that operates in many areas of the U.S.

A Tuesday memo revealed that authorities from the department's 105th Precinct warned its officers that the department received "threats against [members of service]" who live in the Brentwood and Central Islip area of Islip, as well as in Patchogue.

"Intel has been obtained that members of MS13 are looking to 'hit' NYPD police officers, specifically in the Brentwood/Central Islip area, as well as possibly Patchogue in order to gain street credibility," the memo read, according to the New York Post. "These members are conducting reconnaissance of [member of service] private residences."

Anything else?

Sgt. Jessica McRorie told Fox News that an officer safety alert was sent to police "out of an abundance of caution" due to "an unverified threat by MS13 targeting law enforcement officers."

Former FBI Agent Manny Gomez told WCBS, "Whenever a law enforcement officer is being threatened, especially by an organization like MS-13 which we already know is uber violent and has killed numerous people throughout the country if not throughout the world, this has to be taken serious.

"They are going above and beyond what any other gang does, and the scary part is that we already know that they legitimately carry out their threats and they are extremely violent," Gomez added.
