PETA declares latest 'Guardians of the Galaxy' movie the 'best animal rights film of the year'

The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals announced that the latest Marvel superhero movie release is the "best animal rights film of the year" over scenes depicting a sassy, talking raccoon alien.

A spokesperson for PETA applauded "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" and James Gunn, the movie's director, for what it saw as themes endorsing the organization's opposition to animal testing and some confinement techniques.

"James Gunn’s screenplay doesn’t back away from the tough (but often true-to-reality) subject matter, and we’re thrilled by a story about having empathy for all living, feeling beings," wrote Rachel Harp.

The movie portrays experiments conducted on one of the main characters, Rocket Raccoon, which PETA says are very similar to those conducted on animals in real life.

"Animals are given ID numbers, like 89P13, instead of names," Harp points out. "Their ID numbers are typically tattooed on their chests, like both Lylla’s and Rocket’s, or inside their ears."

The organization went on to call it an "Animal-Rights Masterpiece" and endorse it whole-heartedly.

"This film imagines a future when animals can live in peace—one PETA is actively working toward by promoting animal-free research methods that will actually result in treatments and cures for human diseases. Movie buffs can expand their awareness of our work to end animal testing laboratories," Harp added.

"Fly into theaters to see this powerful story," she concluded.

While PETA happily endorsed the movie, other liberals were enraged by the presence of Christian actor Chris Pratt in the movie. Pratt responded by saying that his faith helped him deal with the vitriol and bitter hatred spewed at home from online trolls.

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" opened in theaters nationwide on May 5.
