Armed robbery suspect picks wrong retired Marine’s bar to break into — and feels it fast

A retired Marine Corps service member effortlessly took down a burglary suspect who broke into the vet's bar in Altoona, Pennsylvania.

The robbery incident occurred Tuesday when the armed suspect reportedly entered the Marine's business, Ajay's Bar, and demanded the owner fork over cash.

The bartender — and owner — can be seen in a surveillance video removing money from the register and moving to hand the money to the suspect.

It's that moment the veteran charges the suspect, knocking the suspect down to the ground, where a fight takes place.

According to authorities, a shot was discharged from the suspect's weapon during the scuffle, but neither the vet nor the suspect were injured.

The suspect, apparently scared off, fled the scene, leaving behind a bloody trail. Police were unable to apprehend the suspect, but ask for the public's help in finding out more information about the incident and the suspect in question.

Police recovered the weapon at the scene, which was reported stolen several months ago.

The suspect is described as a light-skinned black male or female with "apparent facial and head injuries."

It is unclear at the time of this writing whether the suspect got away with the cash.

The Altoona Police Department shared an update on its Facebook page about the incident.

The department's post read:

We have posted a series of short surveillance videos from an armed robbery that occurred today at Ajay's Bar, 2901 Maple Ave. at 1:00 a.m. We apologize for the quality of the videos, but at this time the owner of the bar is still trying to copy the actual footage onto a disk. This is a cell phone recording of the original footage.

At this point the suspect is believed to be a light skinned black MALE or FEMALE. It appears that the suspect may have had their hair in tight braids which have recently been removed. The suspect will have apparent facial and head injuries. Anyone who may recognize the suspect, please call 911 immediately or send a private message to this page.
