Mother accused of shooting 2 young sons as they slept before turning the gun on her neighbor

A Bucks County, Pennsylvania, mother, is in custody after she was accused of shooting her two young sons in the head while they slept.

The children were critically injured in the shooting and are reportedly being kept on life support for organ donation.

The woman, 38-year-old Trinh Nguyen, also reportedly turned the gun on her neighbor.

What are the details?

Police say that after Nguyen shot her children — ages nine and 13 — she was found sitting on her front porch by a concerned neighbor.

Nguyen, who had a box of photos with her at the time, asked the neighbor — 22-year-old Gianni Melchiondo — if he would deliver the box of photos to her ex-husband, his coworker. After he agreed, she then reportedly pulled out a handgun and tried to shoot Melchiondo two times. The gun did not fire, and the 22-year-old was able to wrest away the weapon. He was not hurt in the scuffle, but Nguyen was able to break free.

She then reportedly fled the scene and took refuge in a nearby church parking lot.

Officials said that Nguyen had also ingested narcotics in an attempt to kill herself.

Police located Nguyen in the church's parking lot and rushed her to the hospital. She was charged with three counts of attempted murder and one count of possession of an instrument of crime following her release.

Her charges, Bucks County District Attorney Matt Weintraub said, will likely be upgraded to homicide, as the children are not expected to survive the attack.

What else is there to know about this?

Magisterial District Judge Michael W. Petrucci denied Nguyen bail.

Bucks County detectives, in conjunction with the Upper Makefield Township Police, are investigating the incident, a notice from the Bucks County district attorney's office read.

According to a recent report from the Bucks County Courier Times, Nguyen had a history of domestic disturbance and financial turmoil.

The report noted that she was set to be evicted from her five-bedroom luxury duplex by Tuesday.

She was said to owe her landlord — her former sister-in-law — more than $11,000 in back rent.

Nguyen and her ex-husband divorced in November.
