You’ve heard of Brexit, the exit of the United Kingdom from the Eurpoean Union. But how about CalExit? California, Oregon, and Washington wish to secede from the United States now that Donald Trump is president. Some Californians are so serious about it, they’ve petitioned their attorney general’s office to put it on the ballot.
Fox News legal analyst and author Lis Wiehl was stunned to find out how popular this idea is when she was researching her fiction novel “The Separatists.” She set up a Google alert for the terms “separatist” and “secession” so she could do some research and provide an element of realism to her narrative. She expected to get maybe one alert a day, but ended up with dozens.
She told Mike Opelka on today’s “Pure Opelka” that the West Coast efforts are well organized and well funded. Although secession, according to her research, is unconstitutional, she imagined a high powered, well paid attorney could probably find some sort of loop hole.
