Outrage erupts as UPenn transgender swimmer CRUSHES women's records

Should transgender athletes be allowed to compete in women's sports?

On "The Rubin Report" Monday, BlazeTV host Dave Rubin discussed University of Pennsylvania student and transgender swimmer Lia Thomas, who shattered U.S. women’s records over the weekend.

Thomas swam for three seasons in the male division as Will Thomas, but has been dominating in the women's division this season. In November, Thomas swept the 100-meter, 200-meter, and 500-meter freestyle events, smashing records in the process. During an event in Akron, Ohio, last weekend, Thomas once again crushed records in three events, including two new Ivy League records. In the 1,650-yard freestyle, Thomas finished an astonishing 38 seconds ahead of the closest competitor, UPenn teammate Anna Sofia Kalandaze.

While the issue of trans female athletes competing in women's sports has been controversial, Thomas' record-shattering performance has sparked fresh claims of unfairness.

Dave first made it clear that he has no problem with people choosing to transition their gender, but considers the evident problems with biological males competing (and dominating) in women's sports to be a "failure of [today's] feminist movement."

"So, the feminist movement has gone from equality for all, to now the feminist movement is promoting the idea that a biologically born male should win all of the awards in swimming as this person transitions to a female. And that they are doing in the name of feminism and equality," Dave said. "It's so patently absurd that if you wrote it in a book 20 years ago, people would have said you are crazy. And yet, here we are."
