Glenn: Here’s the one thing we can learn now from the Tennessee church shooting

What happened?

A gunman opened fire on people outside and inside a Tennessee church on Sunday night. Around 50 people were inside the sanctuary when the gunman began shooting, and a church usher bravely confronted the shooter and stopped him.

Was anyone killed, and do we know a motive?

Melanie Smith, 39, was walking to her car after a prayer service when she was shot and killed. Afterward, the shooter went inside the church through the main sanctuary door and started shooting wildly with two pistols, wounding six people. The suspect is Emanuel Kidega Samson, 25, a Sudanese man who has legal U.S. residency.

Robert Engle, 22, confronted the gunman and struggled with him until the shooter accidentally wounded himself with the firearm. Samson has been charged with felony homicide, and police have said that more charges are coming later. Authorities haven’t yet established a motive for the heinous crime.

Glenn’s take:

Glenn warned against “taking sides” on Monday’s “The Glenn Beck Radio Program.” People shouldn’t start touting the story as evidence for their cause when we don’t even yet know the truth.

“We have to stop jumping on red meat bandwagons,” he said. “We’ll find out the truth. … But the one thing you need to know is that evil is real.”
