Watch: Russian interference in the election is undisputed fact -- but not what you might think

Michael Flynn said what?

First, we hear that former national security adviser Michael Flynn is prepared to testify that Donald Trump directed him to "make contact" with the Russians.

"He [Flynn] has promised full cooperation to the Mueller team. He's prepared to testify, by a confidant, against President Trump, against members of the Trump family and others in the White house. He is prepared to testify that President Trump, as a candidate Donald Trump, ordered him and directed him to make contact with the Russians," reported Chief Investigative Correspondent for ABC News Brian Ross on Friday.

What went down with Brian Ross?

Then, before the dust could settle from that bombshell, we hear that ABC News has suspended Ross for his erroneous report, and issued the following correction:

Correction: During a live Special Report, ABC News reported that a confidant of Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn said Flynn was prepared to testify that then-candidate Donald Trump instructed him to contact Russian officials during the campaign. That source later clarified that during the campaign, Trump assigned Flynn and a small circle of other senior advisers to find ways to repair relations with Russia and other hot spots. It was shortly after the election, that President-elect Trump directed Flynn to contact Russian officials on topics that included working jointly against ISIS.

On today's show, Glenn compared this kind of rash reporting to the "theory crafting" of eager Star Wars fans. "I think this is the same kind of theory crafting that has gone before all of the Star Wars movies," he said, adding, "All the guessing and the dreaming of what might happen, that didn't really happen. This is what the media is now doing with the Russia probe. They've already made up their minds that Trump is guilty and he needs to be impeached. They are reporting on what they want to happen, not what is actually happening."

So, what's actually happening?

According to a 25-page National Intelligence Council report (which you can read here):

Russian efforts to influence the 2016 US presidential election represent the most recent expression of Moscow’s longstanding desire to undermine the US-led liberal democratic order, but these activities demonstrated a significant escalation in directness, level of activity, and scope of effort compared to previous operations.

What does that mean? It means that Russian interference in the election is undisputed fact, but what were they out to accomplish? Were they really working for Trump?

"Their [the Russians] goal was simple: to undermine public faith in the US democratic process," asserted Glenn. "What's that mean? They wanted you to lose faith in the parties and in the system. They wanted to cause chaos....They never dreamt that they were going to swing the election. All they had to do was create the environment where we would do all of the work."
