Caught on Audio: NY Official Makes Ominous Tucson Reference in Heated Meeting

"It's going to be just like what happened..."

AP:

AMSTERDAM, N.Y. — A public official in upstate New York has apologized for alluding to the shooting rampage in Arizona during a contentious meeting on a businessman's proposal for a new landfill.

Local newspapers first reported that Amsterdam Common Council Alderman William Wills told recycling company owner Robert Noel that if he continues to push the landfill plan, "it's going to be just like what happened unfortunately to an Arizona congressman."

Wills apparently was referring to Saturday's shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and 19 others in Tucson.

Noel abruptly left the meeting after the comment.
