Saturday marked the 20th anniversary of the release of Nevermind, the iconic grunge-band Nirvana's breakout record. With hit singles such as "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and "Come As You Are," Nevermind is credited with bringing alternative rock to the mainstream. As famous as the album's lead singles is Nevermind's cover, a naked baby chasing a dollar underwater.
The baby is now 20-year-old art student Spencer Elden. Elden spoke with CNN recently to discuss the story behind photo, and what life has been like as the "Nevermind baby:"
The self-described Nirvana fan has never met the band members despite his iconic image's place in Nirvana's history. The band's lead singer and guitarist died in April, 1994, at age 27.
The album spent 253 weeks on the Billboard Top 200, and 30 Million copies of Nevermind have been sold worldwide.
