Oops: Romney Gaffes, Introduces Ryan as the 'Next President of the United States

"Every now and then I'm known to make a mistake."

Mitt Romney's picturesque introduction of Paul Ryan as his vice presidential running mate had one small glitch Saturday morning -- when Romney called him "the next president of the United States."

"Join me in welcoming the next president of the United States, Paul Ryan!" Romney declared to the crowd gathered in front of the USS Wisconsin in Norfolk, Va.

As Ryan descended from the ship to the cheers of the crowd and went up to the podium, Romney came up behind him to re-introduce him.

"Every now and then I'm known to make a mistake," Romney said. "I did not make a mistake with this guy, but I can tell you this, he's going to be the next vice president of the United States!"

Then-candidate Barack Obama made a similar slip-up during his 2008 introduction of Joe Biden to the ticket, calling him "the next president -- the next vice president of the United States."
