Directly after President Barack Obama's nomination acceptance speech at the DNC, Cardinal Timothy Dolan in his closing benediction prayed for God to protect the lives of those "waiting to be born," seemingly lecturing Democrats whose official platform defends a woman's right to have an abortion.
"Grant us the courage to defend life…waiting to be born, welcomed and protected," he said. He also prayed for "life, without which no other rights are secured."
He went on: "God grants us the right to life so we can choose liberty and happiness...We praise You for the gift of life, grant us the courage to defend it."
Dolan was initially rejected by the Democratic National Convention but was later invited to give the closing benediction after the convention was pounded with criticism for the move.
