What Did the Anchor Fired After First Day for Cursing on Air Do the Night of His On-Air Gaffe?

"Went home, crawled in bed and called my parents."

The story of A.J. Clemente, who was given his shot to co-anchor the news for NBC affiliate KFYR-TV in in Bismark, North Dakota, then cursed on live TV, and as a result was fired after his first day, has gone so viral that the man has been featured on radio talk shows and even appeared on the "Today" show, "Live with Kelly and Michael" and now "The Late Show" with David Letterman.

On Letterman, Clemente said after his on-air gaffe he "went home, crawled in bed and called my parents."

That night might have been hard, but he said the next day "you gotta pick yourself up, you gotta laugh at yourself."

Letterman jokingly says if KFYR were to realize their own mistake and offer Clemente his job back, would he take it?

"I've thought about it but if, you know, ESPN comes knocking..." Clemente said, trailing off as the audience laughed.

Letterman's thoughts?

"Forget about ESPN. That ain't gonna happen," the late night host said.

Watch the segment:

On the show, Clemente acknowledged that he is still apologizing for his mistake.

"I shouldn't have said the words to begin with but it was a perfect storm of a whole bunch of mistakes," Clemente said.
