The boy was riding on a float at the Edmond, Okla. LibertyFest when he either got down or fell off at the end of the parade, the Associated Press reported.

The float -- described as a tractor and truck -- struck the boy and knocked him down. A nurse riding behind rushed out to help before the boy was loaded onto an ambulance.

"The driver, obviously unknowing what was going on, drove forward and ran over the child," police officer James Hamm told the AP.

The boy was pronounced dead at an area hospital. Neither the victim's nor the driver's names have been released.

According to KFOR, the boy was participating in the parade with his martial arts studio.

Hamm told the AP the driver did not drive recklessly or violate any traffic laws.

"It's just a freak, unfortunate accident," he said.
